French-Norwegian Technology Partnership Day 2018

A French-Norwegian approach to find solutions for cleaner energy - 30th of May 2018

The French-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce (CCFN) organized, in cooperation with NORWEP (Norwegian Energy Partners) and EVOLEN, the 3rd French-Norwegian Energy Forum in Paris on the 30th of May.

This year event focused on “Solutions for cleaner energy”. The objective was to get more insight into how the Energy industry develops solutions that minimize impact on the environment, both in Oil & Gas and also by applying solutions for offshore wind energy. Near to 100 companies from France and Norway attended this event.

The event started with a political introduction from a Norwegian and French perspective. Mrs Elisabeth Berge, Secretary and Head of the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Mrs Virginie Schwarz, Director for energy, Ministry of ecological and Inclusive Transition, shared their common views on the need and opportunities for both countries to cooperate in the energy field.

The public and private main stakeholders of the Energy industry are taking concrete actions and major investments. French and Norwegian companies such as Nexans, Equinor (ex. Statoil), Total, TechnipFMC and Susbsea7, are expanding their activity in cleaner energy with heavy learning in energy efficiency, decentralized production, smart energy, carbon neutrality …

Following the morning Keynote session, participants shared their takeaways on the collaborative innovation solutions in two dedicated workshops: “upstream cleaner energy” and “offshore wind”.

The event ended at the Norwegian embassy with a cocktail gathering all speakers. We can attest that most of the participants agreed on this occasion to meet again very soon to go deeper exploring collaborations mentioned during the forum.

Next step

The French-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce will organize a follow-up, next year with NORWEP and EVOLEN. In the meantime, based on the success of the committee we launched 3 years ago in Oslo, we will start this autumn a new Energy committee in Paris gathering our members and partners specialized in this field. These gatherings are aiming at initiating smarter collaborative Energy projects.

There is a momentum to strengthen and speed-up bilateral Energy cooperation and co-innovation to mitigate climate change. We need to improve solutions in particular through technologies enabling a cleaner O&G production, reducing costs for renewables, deployment of hydrogen and of course CO2 Capture-CCS.  The way Norway is working on CCS with the Northern light full-scale project is exemplary and this project needs to be a success! This is why we are planning in cooperation with Club CO2, and all our public and private partners, to organize in Q1 2019 a CCS bilateral forum in France.

We will inform our members and partners about these coming events very soon.

We would like to thank the sponsors of the Forum.
